Amazon has announced the launch of a new web app version of the Kindle. The previous version of Kindle for web only allowed users to read the first chapter previews of books on-line. An Amazon rep said in an e-mail to ComputerWorld that the version of the web app is intended to “enable users to read full books in the browsers and any website to become a bookstore offering Kindle books.” This is also what the new Google eBooks are attempting to do with their new platform.

Amazon added Kindle apps for the iPad and Android this year. The timing couldn’t be better, not only for the Christmas season but also because Google has just launched a competitive e-bookstore platform.
