Any website can be accessed though a browser on a mobile device. However, the site Mobile Optimized Websites Zco View in iPhone and iPadprobably looks very messy and busy from the small mobile phone screen. There are many aspects that make a website made for a PC lack luster on a mobile device.

Here are three reason for poor mobile sites:

  • First, the site takes a long time to load, and I’m sure majority of mobile users notice this.
  • Second, the page appears very small and it takes a lot of zooming and adjusting to see the page accurately.
  • Third, if the website has Flash it wont show up at all in the iPhone Safari browser.

Google is encouraging businesses to go mobile, with an eye towards growing the mobile ecosystem.  They launched an initiative called GoMo. A site was developed, howtogomo.com, for information on the topic and a feature that shows what your website would look like on a mobile device.

Find a company that will get you started on optimizing your website. A couple tips when designing your new mobile site are:

  • “Thumb-friendly”- A lot of large buttons
  • Font size- Fairly large font to begin then change to a more intuitive size throughout the site
