Google scheduled a press event in New York City for Monday, October 29, but cancelled it due to Hurricane Sandy. Instead, it announced several new products via a blog post.

The company unveiled a new smartphone, the Nexus 4; a new tablet, the Nexus 10; and refreshed versions of its Nexus 7 Google tablettablet at lower prices. All devices run a new revision of the Android operating system, version 4.2, although it retains the Jelly Bean name of its predecessor, version 4.1.

Nexus 4

Google’s new phone was developed along with LG. It features a 4.7” display, a Near Field Communication (NFC) chip, and wireless charging capability. It supports the HSPA+ flavor of 4G and will be available for purchase on Tuesday, November 13. An 8GB version will be $299 and a 16GB version will be $349 directly from Google Play. The 16GB version will also be available from T-Mobile with a 2-year contract for $199.

While most phones can take panoramic shots with their cameras, the Nexus 4 ups the ante on rivals with Photo Sphere, which stitches together snapshots to create 360-degree photo compositions. As part of Android 4.2, Photo Sphere will likely find its way to other Android smartphones soon.

Ars Technica reports that the Nexus 4 uses a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor at 1.5GHz.

Nexus 10

Google’s latest tablet has a screen that measures 10.055 inches diagonally and boasts a resolution of 2560 x 1600, exceeding the 2048 x 1536 pixels of the Retina Display on Apple’s iPad. It claims nine hours of battery life and has multi-user capability. It will also be available on November 13 in two versions: 16GB for $399 and 32GB for $499.

Nexus 7

This Nexus tablet has been available for months, but Google has now lowered the price and updated the operating system. The 16GB version is now $199 and there’s now a 32GB version for $249, available immediately. There’s also a 32GB Nexus 7 with HSPA+ wireless capability for $299 on November 13.

Although most of the new devices are not yet available, customers can sign up to be notified as soon as orders are being accepted at their respective Google Play product pages.
