Zco Corporation is proud to announce the sponsorship of a $250,000 Zco Green App Worldwide Contest for secondary school or high school
students (generally between the ages of 13 and 18). Students, with guidance from teachers, are challenged to create a smartphone app idea
that will benefit the earth and the environment in a substantial way. The contest will be open to students worldwide.
The Zco Green App Worldwide Contest has two primary goals:
Help the environment by leveraging smartphone users worldwide
Encourage the younger generation to be more environmentally conscious and active
There are hundreds of millions of smartphone users worldwide; by some reports, this number will exceed one billion by 2014. Since mobile devices
are utilized through the world, an app can give us the ability to monitor, record and communicate from every nook and corner of the earth, and possibly
beyond. By taking advantage of this medium, we may be able to, for the first time, attack environmental problems that the earth is facing
in ways that have never been thought of before.
The first and probably most important prerequisite for creating a great green app is a great green app idea. To find one, the contest will
leverage the boundless energy, enthusiasm, and ingenuity of half a billion worldwide students. Student teams, with a guiding teacher, will work
together to create and submit their app ideas.
Once a great app idea is selected, the next step will be to create apps that will run on various smartphone platforms such as iPhone, Android,
Windows Phone, and BlackBerry. This is where Zco Corporation comes in. Zco will use its mobile software development expertise and engineering
resources to develop the winning app. It will donate $250,000 worth of engineering services for this purpose.
Once the app is created, it will be turned over to a willing non-profit organization for distribution through various app stores
and its ongoing management.
