Zco Corporation had the opportunity to exhibit at this year’s New England Grows Convention at the Boston Convention Center, February 6 and 7. The expo brought over 13,000 horticulture professionals together to discover the biggest breakthroughs in the industry. We displayed two of our clients’ apps, AgRacer and Lawn Envy, as well as our 3D and augmented reality capabilities. Here’s some of the pictures we snagged while exploring the maze of tractors, trees, and lawn care professional exhibits:
While at the show, I was able to to attend an interesting session on the importance of mobile in retail. J.D. Associates expressed the necessity of utilizing mobile devices and applications in a retail business setting. The presentation highlighted the success of businesses that incorporate a mobile campaign, including Nordstrom’s, which saw an increase of 30% in revenue growth!
The impending snowstorm cut the show short – we hope that everyone made it home safely.

On January 24 and 25, Zco Corporation had the opportunity to sponsor and exhibit at the 2nd Annual Pharmaceutical Public Relations and Corporate Communications Conference in Boston, MA.
The conference, organized by Q1 Productions, brought professionals in the pharmaceutical industry together to discuss the importance of public and internal communication. Industry leaders, including Eli Lilly and Johnson & Johnson, presented their communication experiences in crisis, public relations, and internal situations.
David Asplund and I showcased Zco’s abilities in enterprise software development, including 3D animation and augmented reality. Mobile application development is a fast-growing area in the healthcare industry. The most recent HIMSS survey shows that half of clinicians are planning on utilizing more mobile devices in the next year, and 40% of healthcare providers are interested in mobile apps that can show medical information to their patients.
While away from the booth, David and I participated in discussions on social media, internal communication and the effectiveness of digital campaigns. Many of the companies represented at the conference, including Millennium and Johnson & Johnson, have already initiated or are exploring the inclusion of a sophisticated mobile campaign, which utilizes 3D animation, internal software, and front-facing applications.
We were pleased to offer information on the use of mobile devices in the healthcare industry, a field that is relatively young but growing quickly.

Conference will focus on PR strategies for Biotech industry.
Mobile Application Developer Zco Corporation will sponsor and exhibit at the 2nd Annual Pharmaceutical Public Relations and Corporate Communications Conference. The event will be held at the Boston Omni Parker House January 24 through 25.
Directors and Managers of Public Affairs within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries will be in attendance, along with experts in business development, media, and communications. Throughout the conference, 16 speakers representing 13 biotechnology companies will present material in support of instituting a more efficient communication system.
Representatives from Zco Corporation will be available to discuss the effectiveness of mobile applications and animations in medical and pharmaceutical industries. Utilizing enterprise software has been shown to improve communication between co-workers, clients and patients alike. Ernst and Young reported that pharmaceutical investments in apps, social media, and wireless devices have grown 78% since 2010. Mobile applications can alleviate the complications of some procedures by turning an unpleasant task, such as giving a child a shot, into a game or animated video aimed at entertaining the patient.
Similarly, developing applications for medical professionals or students can assist them in providing exceptional healthcare. An example of this is utilizing 3D animation to make medical or surgical training a more engaging and memorable process.
The utilization of mobile apps in the pharmaceutical industry is on the rise. According to mHealth Watch, half of physicians who own a smartphone utilize drug reference applications. A study produced by Digitas Health shows that 40% of HCPs are interested in applications that can show images, video, or additional information to their patients.
Throughout the program, attendees will have opportunities to learn from experts in the industry and share their experiences and successes. Items on the agenda including keynotes, round-table discussions, breakout sessions, and case-study presentations focused on best practices for establishing effective communication efforts in an ever-changing market.
A communication strategy can include promoting social media and the distribution of press releases. Tutorials on how to effectively employ both mediums of communication will be thoroughly discussed over the course of the event. Additionally, the Pharmaceutical Conference will explore the most successful methods of tapping into the emerging market outside of the United States.
The event will also serve as an opportunity for attendees to reach out to others in the field. According to the conference website, business models and strategies will be the likely talking points during networking sessions.

Following the announcement of a successful 2012, Microsoft’s Windows Phone is “kicking off the new year with a one-of-a-kind opportunity.”
The Next App Star contest is aimed at giving developers better visibility across a larger customer base. How does the contest promote your app’s visibility? By featuring it in a primetime TV ad for Windows Phone 8, of course.
To enter, a developer must register at the Dev Center and opt-in by March 5. The contest is not strictly for pre-existing apps. As long as the app is developed for WP8 and published in the Apps+Games Store by the end date, it is available for submission.
After March 5, the judges at Microsoft will determine the top 64 apps by weighing user ratings and app quality. They stress in the announcement that utilizing the features of Windows Phone 8 will greatly help the chances of your app being chosen. From that point, the remaining 64 apps will be subject to a public vote in a “head-to-head, bracket-style” tournament. The last app standing will land a spot on a TV ad.
Microsoft will also award “thousands of dollars in prizes” to the other 63 apps that didn’t win the TV spot. Among other things, prizes include a Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone and a one-year subscription to the Dev Center.
The contest is open to seasoned developers and newcomers alike. Experts in the Dev Center are available to give advice, or answer development questions related to fine-tuning your application.
Do you have an app idea for Windows Phone? Zco can help you develop a new app or update your existing one. Email us to get started!
